Åland-based gaming operator Paf posted its strongest financial performance to date in 2025, with annual revenue climbing 12% year-on-year to €214.5m, up from €191.7m in 2024.

Profit also increased, reaching €57.2m compared to €54.3m the previous year, marking a record-breaking year for the operator.

Societal Contributions Surpass €500m

Alongside its commercial growth, Paf revealed that its total contributions to social causes have now surpassed the €500m milestone since the company’s launch in 1966. The latest annual distribution amounted to €55.5m, bringing cumulative societal contributions to €527.9m.

“Contributing more than €500m to building a stronger society in Åland is a new milestone in Paf’s 60-year history,” said Jan-Mikael von Schantz, Chairman of the Board at Paf.

“Paf has made a remarkable journey from offering local gaming experiences in Åland in the 1960s to introducing gaming onboard ferries during the latter part of the 20th century. With the development of digital gaming since the early 2000s, Paf is today an established operator in several markets across Europe.

“It is the result of long-term and successful work carried out with great expertise by Paf’s management and employees.”

Land-Based Growth and Expanding Customer Base

The company’s land-based and ferry gaming segment recorded a 3% revenue increase during the year, while the number of active customers grew by 12%.

Paf has continued to strengthen its presence across European markets while maintaining a diversified business model that combines online and retail gaming operations.

Responsible Gambling Remains Central

Paf also continued to highlight responsible gambling as a core part of its strategy. During 2025, the operator reduced its mandatory annual loss limit for all customers from €17,500 to €16,000, while players aged 20-24 were restricted to a €6,000 cap.

The company lowered the overall limit again in February 2026 to €15,000, meaning the original loss threshold introduced in 2018 has now been cut in half.

Paf stated that these restrictions form part of its broader ambition to create a more sustainable gambling model, even if rival operators have not implemented similar measures.

Finland Expansion Possibilities

The operator is also viewed as a potential future entrant into Finland’s nationwide regulated market ahead of its planned liberalisation in July 2027.

Over the past year, Paf has expanded its brand activity, including a sponsorship partnership with former Formula One driver Kimi Räikkönen and a collaboration between its sportsbook brand 1X2 and Swedish football programme Fotbollsmorgon.

Player Protection Improvements Continue

Internally, Paf reported further progress in player protection. The company stated that its highest-risk “red” customer category has now been completely eliminated due to its mandatory loss-limit system.

At the same time, revenue generated from lower-spending customers, those losing under €8,000 annually, increased by 17.5% throughout the year.

While the operator has yet to confirm wider expansion plans, its 2025 results underline continued momentum during a period when many European gambling firms have struggled to maintain growth.
